Aker BP orders pump systems for Valhall Flank West platform

Aker BP has awarded PG Flow Solutions a contract to supply a number of pump systems to the Valhall Flank West wellhead platform which will be deployed in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The normally unmanned Valhall Flank West platform is the first project in the Wellhead Platform Alliance, which was established in the spring of 2017 between Aker BP, Kvaerner, ABB and Aker Solutions.

Under the pump delivery contract,  PG Flow Solutions will deliver miscellaneous pumps to the platform topside, which is constructed at Kvaerner’s yard in Verdal, Norway. Kvaerner cut first steel for the Valhall Flank West platform deck in April, marking the start of construction.

PG Flow Solutions will deliver a shaker drain pump, diesel transfer pump, pressure equalizing pump, fresh water pump, fresh water pressure pump, hazardous open drain pump and drains recovered oil pump.

PG Flow Solutions has not disclosed the value of the contract.

Valhall is one of the largest oil fields in the southern part of the Norwegian sector in the North Sea. The field has produced more than one billion barrels of oil since the startup in 1982.

Valhall Flank West will be developed from a new Normally Unmanned Installation (NUI), tied back to the Valhall field center for processing and export. The platform will be remotely operated from the Valhall field center. First oil is expected in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Aker BP submitted its plans for development and operations for the Valhall Flank West, Ærfugl, and Skogul fields to the Norwegian authorities in mid-December 2017.
