Awards for “Lithuanian Products of the Year” Presented

On the 21st of December, Algirdas Butkevičius, the Prime Minister, and Robertas Dargis, the President of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, greeted and presented the awards of the “Lithuanian Products of the Year” competition to the heads of the companies at the House of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.

Environmentally friendly tug “GEO”, which was designed and built by “Western Shipyard” group of companies, was awarded a gold medal. Fire Fighting ASD Harbour Tug “GEO” was delivered to the customer in the summer of 2012. One of the most important differences between a conventional and a new-generation environmentally friendly (ECO) tug is the ability to operate with one engine, so the vessel can operate with reduced fuel consumption and environmental pollution.

80 companies in ten assessment groups of the 15 different economic branches of the country were nominated for the awards in the “Lithuanian Product of the Year 2012” competition, which is considered to be the most important assessment of the business community for companies in Lithuania. After summarising the conclusions of the experts, a commission consisting of two levels of experts and representing various industrial and business branches decided to award 85 gold and 15 silver medals for the production and services of the companies.

The President of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists was delighted that more and more companies have been creating new products that are winning awards in competitions. Meanwhile, Algirdas Butkevičius, the Prime Minister, was very happy to see that more and more small companies are participating in this competition every year. “It shows that the economy of the country is moving in the right direction”, said the Minister as he greeted the participants of the event.
