Azerbaijan: New 'Ship Repair and Shipbuilding' Yard Opened

President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev attended, few days ago, the opening ceremony of a new “Ship repair and ship building” production unit of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company. The commissioning of a new “Ship repair and ship building” production unit of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company is one of the important steps towards further development of the industry.

In accordance with the state program on the transfer of industrial enterprises out of the city center, the shipyard named after the Paris Commune and a part of the ship repair and ship building plant named after Ilham Allahverdiyev were dismantled and a new “Ship repair and ship building” production unit built in the vicinity of the Zykh highway. the Construction works on the new shipyard were carried out in 2011-2012.

The director of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company, Aydin Bashirov, informed the President about the conditions created at the facility and the production process. It was noted that in order to carry out the required welding, smelting, plumbing, electrical and repair work, as well as work involving machining and processing of wood in different parts of the enterprise, the latest machinery, equipment and other facilities have been purchased and installed.

The President visited different workshops of the plant. It was indicated that a total of six workshops had been built, relevant communication lines laid and the necessary infrastructure put in place on an area of 2.2 hectares. In addition, a large amount of shore protection activities have been carried out on the area and berths with a total length of about 1,400 meters and breakwaters have been built. It was mentioned that eight large vessels can be repaired at these berths at the same time.
