BC Ferries, Seaspan Ferries mariners go through Cryopeak’s LNG safety training

Over 100 mariners from BC Ferries and Seaspan Ferries have completed an LNG safety training provided by Cryopeak. 

According to Cryopeak’s statement, the course aims to prepare the mariners for LNG emergency case scenarios.

BC Ferries currently has three LNG-fueled 107-metre Salish-Class ferries, with the capacity to carry 145 vehicles and up to 600 passengers and crew, on order at Remontowa Shipbuilding in Gdansk, Poland.

The first vessel, the Salish Orca, is planned to arrive in the Canadian province of British Columbia by the end of this year. The Salish Eagle is expected to arrive early in 2017 and the Salish Raven is expected to arrive shortly thereafter in the spring of 2017.

All three vessels are planned to be in operation in the summer of 2017.

Seaspan Ferries has ordered two hybrid LNG/diesel/battery-powered ro-ro cargo ferries which will be built at the Sedef yard in Turkey. The ferries are set to be delivered before the end of 2016.
