Clough, Wärtsilä to build PNG gas-fired power plant

Perth-based Clough said it has won a contract with Wärtsilä do develop a gas-fired power plant near Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. 

The POM Power station is an infrastructure project being developed by NiuPower, a partnership between Oil Search and Kumul Petroleum.

Clough, in joint venture with Wärtsilä has been selected under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal for the project.

Clough noted in its statement, the power station will use natural gas supplied by the PNG LNG project to feed six reciprocating gas engines and generators.

It will produce 58MW baseload power to the Port Moresby power grid through a new 66kv power line and substation network.
