Dolphin Commences New Seismic Survey in Barents Sea

Dolphin Geophysical, in association with Searcher Seismic, has commenced acquisition of a new 3,300km2 3D SHarp BroadBand Multi-Client seismic survey in the Maud Basin South area of the Norwegian Barents  Sea.

The project was originally scheduled to start in April next year, however following the recent Wisting oil discovery, to which this survey will tie, industry focus on this under-explored potential 23rd Round province has significantly increased  and Dolphin has commenced survey acquisition with its high capacity 3D vessel, the Polar Duchess.

“From the examination of existing 2D data it is apparent that 3D coverage is required to map and evaluate the potential existence of interesting, similar structures and features as well as deeper geological targets and plays, possibly down to  the Permian, in the open acreage.

The enhanced data quality and imaging will enable clients to better define and identify these new and previously known plays” says Ian T. Edwards, Vice President Global Multi-Client of Dolphin.
