LiftWEC is a H2020 project that is focused on the development of a novel wave energy converter that exploits wave-induced lift forces. The project consortium consists of ten members from five different European countries. A co-design approach has been taken in the development of LIftWEC, including key factors such as operations & maintenance, environmental impact, control and structural design as well as the power performance of a wide range of configurations to identify a technology with the lowest expected levelised cost of energy. The outcome of the three years of fundamental and applied research on the LiftWEC concept has identified the key considerations in the design of a lift-based wave energy converter, as well as the currently most promising configuration.
