Floatel said on Tuesday that Equinor had extended the Floatel Superior charter at the Martin Linge field development, which is located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Floatel Superior started its charter at Equinor’s Martin Linge project at the end of July 2018. The contract has now been extended with four months until the end of March 2020.

Floatel noted that six monthly options remain in place for the Floatel Superior.

It is worth noting that, before its contract with Equinor, the Floatel Superior worked for Total on the Culzean field in the UK North Sea.

Floatel Superior is a semi-submersible accommodation and construction support vessel designed for worldwide operation with emphasis on the harshest environmental conditions in the world, such as the Northern North Sea. It was built by Keppel FELS Shipyard in Singapore and delivered in 2010.

The vessel is equipped with the Kongsberg Dynamic Positioning System, certified to DP3 class. Floatel Superior accommodates 440 persons in single bed cabins.

The North Sea Martin Linge field is an oil and gas discovery made in 1978. The field is located 42 kilometers west of Oseberg, where the water depth is 115 meters. Equinor became the operator of the Martin Linge field on March 19, 2018.

The Martin Linge field development comprises a jacket-based integrated wellhead, production and accommodation platform and a permanently anchored oil storage vessel. When the field comes on stream, the gas will be transported through a new pipeline connecting the field to the existing pipeline going to St. Fergus, Scotland. The oil will be processed on the storage vessel and transported from the field in shuttle tankers.
