Cuban ports being deepened

News – July 15, 2008

The Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Cuba is deepening its main seaports to handle larger vessels.

The report said dredging is underway in Havana, Santiago and Cienfuegos, which together receive about 85 per cent of cargo imported into the country.

Quoting the National Port Authority, the report said that when the projects are finished next year, the three ports should have average depths of 11.5m.
