Van der Velden® Marine Systems with BARKE® and TIMON rudder at SMM

The Oceangoing vessels division of Van der Velden Marine Systems will exhibit at the SMM 2010 International Trade Fair in Hamburg, 7 – 10 September. Highlights of its presentation will include a BARKE® rudder, a TIMON rudder and the EPS™ silent thruster. On Wednesday and Thursday, Van der Velden Marine Systems will host a “Happy Hour” with refreshments and music at its stand in Hall A4 440 at 17.00 hours.

BARKE® rudder
The key driver behind the BARKE® rudder is its innovative high sophisticated progressive operating rudder movement high lift design, offering both unsurpassed manoeuvring and course keeping performance as well as smooth operation comfort. The flap operation linkage system of the BARKE® rudder is contained in a fully enclosed grease lubricated housing. This results in minimum wear on the linkage components and eliminates the risk of sand entry or the mechanical effects of contact with floating objects or ice. An overload protection system is provided to prevent the main rudder from jamming.

TIMON rudder
This well known flap-type rudder has a slide-bar flap linkage. It is the perfect solution for excellent manoeuvrability. Thanks to the flap-type principle, the TIMON rudder has a high maximum lift that results in a first class manoeuvring performance. The simple slide-bar flap linkage is easy to maintain and construct, so this manoeuvrability comes at a competitive price. The slim profile design ensures that the drag is low.

EPS™ thruster
The award winning and revolutionary EPS™ silent thruster, which is also available in a tunnel and retractable version, represents a breakthrough in the fields of noise levels, low weight, space saving and comfort.
The success of these EPS™ thrusters led to the development of a propulsion variant, the EPS™ Azimuthing Retractable thruster, which can also be deployed as a main propeller.

Due to the resulting increase in customer demands, Van der Velden has now decided to switch from single to series production. This will allow greater quantities to be produced and shorter delivery times of all variants of the EPS™ thrusters are guaranteed for clients.
