Allweiler expands internationally, landing multi cargo and oil recovery system contracts with leading global offshore operators.

The Norwegian division of Allweiler, a specialist provider of a comprehensive range of screw, centrifugal and progressing cavity pumps to the merchant marine and offshore industries, today announced a series of cargo and oil recovery system deliveries, to major offshore operators including REM Offshore, Solstad Offshore, Simon Møkster, San Miquel and Bourbon.

Valued at more than NOK 20 million, the total contracts comprise advanced design and comprehensive pump packages, ranging from engineering to approved design documents for sophisticated offshore cargo handling and oil recovery systems.

According Geir Olimb, Director of Sales for Allweiler AS in Norway, global operators require professional partners to enhance their competitiveness in the robust offshore-shipping market.

“Allweiler’s business division in Norway has been building its reputation as a global supplier of sophisticated pump packages and cargo systems and is pleased to have signed contracts with a number of prestigious players in the offshore-shipping market,” he says.

Allweiler has also confirmed large orders for cargo handling systems with STX Offshore Norway for five PSVs, ordered by Simon Møkster, REM and Solstad. The vessels are built to STX PSV design and recognized for good sea-keeping performance, low fuel consumption and environmentally friendly operations. Allweiler’s delivery includes all technical documentation, complete pump package, engineering and technical drawings.

“These PSV’s are also designated as oil recovery vessels and Allweiler cargo and oil recovery systems meet stricter rules and regulations regarding contingency and environmental measures,” adds Olimb.

Allweiler is further partnering with Brazil’s Alianca Shipyard for the supply of four hybrid cargo and oil recovery systems to a series of PSVs ordered by national shipowner San Miguel. San Miguel is a major provider of vessels and services to Brazil’s offshore industry.

The contracts comprise the delivery of design, engineering and commissioning of main pump equipment.

The total order requires Allweiler pumps to accommodate a variety of pumping activities including ballast, tank washing/stripping/slop discharge, and chemical dozing pumps.

Furthermore, Allweiler delivers custom made hydraulic power units and local control cabinets for collection of alarms and start/stop signals.

“Allweiler together with Cargomaxx provides a very flexible cargo solution, able to handle both wet and dry cargoes. The ships Cargomaxx tank designs give higher flexibility and a higher payload (greater cargo tank volume),” explains Olimb.

Further, Bourbon, a world-leading operator of offshore service vessels, ordered Allweiler’s oil recovery system for its latest MPSV recently delivered from India’s Bharati Shipyard. With a length of 60m and accommodations for 44 people, this vessel is particularly adapted to maintenance work in producing oil and gas fields on the continental shelf.

The next generation vessel meets stringent offshore demands for safety, maneuverability, environmental protection and productivity. Allweiler acts as a connection point between shipowner, yard and equipment suppliers, developing the total pump solution and adapting vessel design to accommodate the oil recovery system.

“Bourbon made a decision to convert its MPSV to an oil recovery vessel. The company contacted Allweiler in Norway and we are now completing the turnkey delivery, complete with a hydraulic power pack, to a shipyard in Turkey,” says Olimb.

He believes that market shifts have forced companies to downsize engineering and design staffs. That, in turn coupled with the growing demand for speed and cost efficiencies, has left many companies to turn to packaged systems solutions.

“Moving to packaged systems means leaving the design and engineering to experts. Experts with skills most companies do not possess in-house, and experts who can quickly produce drawings and designs, then swiftly deliver a finished product. Packaged systems are also application-specific. They meet the unique needs of each individual customer with a single source for every component, so in-house staffs no longer have to cobble together all the pieces,” says Olimb.

The Norwegian division of Allweiler is a leading supplier to the global offshore shipping industry. In the past five years it has delivered complete pump packages to over 300 offshore vessels.

“The Brazilian contracts increases our global position in this specialized field,” concludes Olimb.

Allweiler offers a range of cargo systems‚ as well as an array of options that include diesel engine drives‚ electric motor drives or hydraulic power-pack drives‚ all designed to meet the specific product and design demands of offshore-shipping operation.

In addition‚ Allweiler provides cargo-handling screw pump solutions that are especially well-suited to bitumen or asphalt applications – pumps that offer proven reliability and flexibility‚ plus excellent suction life, low vibration pulsations and capabilities of handling high viscosities.
