Navingo and HME organize seminar on offshore wind installation and maintenance

Navingo will organize, in cooperation with HME (part of Holland Marine Equipment), a seminar on Offshore Wind Installation and Maintenance on 29 April 2010. The seminar, combined with a Product Display Area will take place at WTC Rotterdam and is the first in The Netherlands dedicated entirely to installation and maintenance. Seminar sessions are centered around opportunities and challenges in this growth market for project developers, suppliers, service engineers and other industry stakeholders.

From 1.5 GW to 40 GW offshore wind power
The offshore wind industry is characterized by ambitious growth targets. This offers new chances for the maritime and offshore industry as these targets can only be met with the right equipment and the right support bases. In 2020 some 10,000 wind turbines should generate around 40 GW of offshore wind power in Northwest Europe. At the moment, 1.5 GW of capacity is installed.

Helicopter view of a growth market
Seminar participants can expect a diverse program presenting visions on the development of the offshore wind industry in Northwest Europe as well as on the ramifications for particular parts of the offshore wind value chain. Speakers from i.a. ECN, Gusto and Siemens will present a helicopter view of vessel and port requirements, operation and maintenance processes. Eneco has been invited to present their development plans for the wind park West of the Isle of Wight, for which the company recently obtained exclusive development rights.

Support IRO and Holland Shipbuilding Association
Installing and operating the huge numbers of wind turbines at sea pose an incredible logistic challenge. Vessels will have to sail to and fro to install the wind turbines. Service-engineers have to be able to reach the wind parks for monitoring and maintenance. IRO and Holland Shipbuilding, Dutch industry associations of oil and gas suppliers and of the maritime suppliers and shipbuilders, recognize the potential profits of offshore wind installation and maintenance and support the seminar.
