Lifeboat rescues anglers at sea

A small boat which was drifting towards a massive car carrier after developing engine trouble off the Tyneside coast was helped to safety by lifeboat crews.

The 30ft (9.1m) Alna had sailed from North Shields with six anglers on board when the engine failed out at sea.

The vessel was drifting close to the 9,000 tonne car carrier Palma in a strong wind so an emergency radio call was made to the Humber Coastguard.
