LRQA achieves UKAS accreditation for BS 25999 (business continuity)

LRQA (Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance) has achieved official accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for BS 25999-2, the certification standard for business continuity management.

The standard demonstrates an organisation’s capability to manage business critical risks such that it can continue to run effectively following disruption, whether natural, man-made, criminal or terror-based.

Five certification bodies took part in the UKAS pilot, but only LRQA successfully met the strict criteria necessary to achieve accreditation to offer BS 25999 certification in any industry sector in the UK.

This makes LRQA the only certification body in the world able to offer full scope UKAS accreditation across any industry sector in the UK for the ‘big five’ standards. These are ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental), OHSAS 18001 (health & safety), ISO 27001 (information security) and BS 25999 (business continuity).

Companies can confidently approach a BS 25999 accredited certification body knowing it has met strict criteria for assessor competence, quality and service delivery, something in which LRQA takes great pride, as Denis Ives, UK & Ireland Manager, explains: “Accreditation by the industry governing body, UKAS, is the benchmark when it comes to judging certification bodies, so our success in achieving UKAS accreditation for 25999 is great news for us and our clients, as we can now issue accredited certification for this standard.”

Whether by market pressure, supply chain demands or industry regulation, demonstration of business continuity management (BCM) is fast becoming an essential requirement, with third-party BS 25999-2 certification providing stakeholders with that formal proof of effective BCM.
