Inferno continues on Timor Sea oil rig

The federal government has continued to defend its response to an oil spill leaking for more than 10 weeks, which has now sparked an oil rig fire in the Timor Sea. A fire broke out on PTTEP Australasia’s Montara well head platform on Sunday when the company began an operation to plug the well with heavy mud, after successfully intercepting a 25cm round steel well casing more than 2.6km under the seabed.
