Thome wants cadets to be mandatory

Despite the economic downturn there is still a shortage of senior officers, in some sectors more than others. Some owners have cut down on cadets to save money, something Singapore based Thome Ship Management, with more than 100 vessels in their control, do not like. ”Now is the time to get flag states or even the International Maritime Organisation to enforce onboard cadet training”, said Capt Bjørn Højgaard, Thome’s MD, in an interview with Seatrade Asia Online.
