Malaysia’s shipping sector misses the boat again

THE shipping industry, especially the offshore supply shipping services sector, was in for disappointment again when its requests for changes in the fiscal structure were once again left out in the Budget proposals for 2007 announced last Friday.
The industry had through the Malaysian Shipowners’ Association made representations to the Government at various dialogues and discussions for it to be included within the scope of the present blanket tax exemption given to shipping companies for income earned from locally-owned and operated ships.
