Petron to charter double-hull, double-bottom fuel cargo vessel

Petron officials announced in a news forum that it has chartered a double-hull, double bottom ship for its oil cargo transport under its shipping alliance project even before the M/T Solar vessel oil spill in Guimaras happened.

Petron’s VisMin industrial marketing coordinator Steve del Mar bared Petron is the first oil firm in the country that has chartered a double-hull, double bottom ship in compliance to the International Monitoring Organization (IMO) requirement that oil cargo vessels should be double-hull and double-bottom.

Most oil firms in the country charter single-hull cargo vessels as these are cheaper compared to double-hull, double bottom vessels. Under the IMO regulation, oil companies must strictly comply in chartering only double hull, double bottom cargo vessels by April 2008.
