American picks up Volvo Ocean Race pace

Skipper John Kostecki wore a weary look of frustration as he leaned over the life line of Ericsson Racing to speak with the assembled media following Leg 5 of the Volvo Ocean Race. Kostecki felt the Swedish syndicate had just sailed a solid race, but the result – fifth out of six boats – did not support that assessment. “I thought the team made a huge improvement. We were in the hunt most of the way and didn’t get dropped when racing in close contact with the other boats,” Kostecki said.
