12 Wells Currently Being drilled in Kish Gas Field, Says Official

Head of operational district of Kish gas field says drilling of 12 wells were under way in the field.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 9th International Energy Exhibition in Kish Island, Alireza Qanei, said that Iran’s Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) plans to start early production from the giant gas field.

He estimated in situ gas reserves of Kish field at 60 tcf, equivalent to six phases of South Pars gas field reserves.

Referring to satisfactory cooperation between Kish Free Zone authorities and IOOC, he said cooperation was on the rise through intensive talks.

The onshore facilities for treatment of gas will not be pollutant and inconsistent with environment, Qanei said adding IOOC pursues no-flare policy so necessary assurances have been given to related officials in the Island on respecting environmental issues.

According to Qanei, different scenarios have been designed for gas production and the most appropriate one will be chosen for development of the field after finalization.

In the light of satisfactory interaction between IOOC and Kish Free Zone officials as well as governmental supports, he expressed hope gas extraction to be started as soon as possible.
