M.V. Alice was successfully launched at the Westerbroek yard of Ferus Smit at the beginning of the month of May. During the ceremony the ship was given the name ‘Alice’ after Mrs Alice Kallsson, the wife of Helge Kallsson who founded the Thun shipping company 75 years ago.

‘Alice’ was christened by Ms. Ann-Christin Backstrom, the wife of Governor Lars Backstrom of the Swedish Gotaland region.

This bulk oriented general cargo ship is specially designed for trading in the Gotaland region. With her special dimensions ‘Alice’ exactly fits through the locks of the trollhattan canal, connecting the Vanern with the Port of Goteborg at the North Sea.

Thanks to a light high tensile steel hull construction and a very full hullform with a large bulb, the ships will carry an absolute maximum amount of cargo deadweight through the restricted dimensions of the canal and locks.

Trials and delivery of the vessel are scheduled for week 23.
