Petredec Adds Four LPG Carriers

Petredec Adds Four LPG Carriers

After recently ordering two+two VLGCs at Hyundai Heavy, Singapore-headquartered Petredec has placed another order for new vessels. This time, the company contracted two Japanese yards to build four 11,000 cum LPG carriers.

Two vessels will be built by Sasaki Shipbuilding, while the other two are to be constructed by Kyokuyo Shipyard.

The newbuilds, that will be fitted with Man B&W’s ME main engines, will have the hull form optimised for the vessels’ intended trading areas, which according to Petredec will allow a significant increase in cargo carrying capacity.

The extra cargo capacity and superior speed and consumption, compared with the existing (large Pressurized) fleet, gives Petredec a huge competitive advantage,” Seatrade-Global cited Giles Fearn, chief executive of Petredec.

All four vessels should be delivered by the end of 2015.
