Platts recognizes Repsol as E&P industry leader in 2017

Provider of commodities and energy information S&P Global Platts has awarded Spanish oil company Repsol with the 2017 Exploration and Production Industry Leadership Award at the annual Global Energy Awards.

According to Platts, the award recognizes excellence and perseverance in upstream industries. To win, “a company must demonstrate that its activities in exploration and production set world-class standards in one or more of a range of activities.”

The award was received by Repsol’s executive managing director of exploration and production, Luis Cabra, at the Global Energy Awards gala in New York on December 7.

The jury, made up of energy-industry experts, rewarded the improved performance of several upstream assets acquired from Talisman in 2015. Examples, according to Repsol, include production improvements at the Marcellus project in the United States and the turnaround of performance of the North Sea assets held in the Repsol Sinopec UK joint venture.

Apart from the above mentioned, Repsol had major exploration successes in Alaska with the greatest hydrocarbon find on US soil in the past 30 years and in Trinidad and Tobago as well as the addition of new output from projects in Brazil, Malaysia, and Bolivia.

Cabra said: “We have 3,400 people in more than 30 countries on five continents. They have all worked at the same pace and with the same enthusiasm, and their performance has been continuous and constant in every country.”

The award for Exploration and Production is a category within the Industry Leadership Awards. Apart from E&P, the Global Energy Awards recognize industry leaders in Biofuels, Electricity Generation, Grid Optimization, and Midstream.

Other awards were CEO of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Rising Star Award (for an individual and company), three Deal of the Year categories, Grid Edge Award, and Energy Company of the Year.

As for technology and engineering, Platts gave awards for the Construction Project of the Year, Engineering Project of the Year, Breakthrough Solution of the Year, and Commercial Application of the Year.
