POSCO registers cryogenic manganese steel as standard tech

POSCO’s cryogenic manganese steel that can be used in the construction of LNG tanks has been registered as standard technology with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

Technologies registered with the international standards organization related to materials and standards are being used as standards or specifications for engineers not only in the US but globally.

Registration with ASTM means that POSCO’s cryogenic high manganese steel is recognized as a material that can be safely used around the world.

Cryogenic high manganese steel is a steel product that can withstand a very low temperature, -196℃ and is suitable storing and transporting LNG.

Last year, POSCO supplied the cryogenic high manganese steel as the material for the LNG fuel tank for an LNG-fueled bulk carrier which was being built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.

The company intends to further develop the product marketing as well as to tap into the energy sector and developing new markets.
