PSA Audits Det Norske's Risk Management at Ivar Aasen

Between 29 and 31 October 2013, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of the work of Det norske oljeselskap ASA (Det norske) to ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements for barrier management in the Ivar Aasen development project.

The objective of the audit was to verify that the establishment and implementation of Det norske’s management system ensured compliance with the regulatory requirements for risk and barrier management from a life-cycle perspective.

Three non-conformities were identified in connection with:

– depressurisation of pressure tanks

– the fire water system

– the fire and explosion design loads

In addition, eight improvement points were identified in connection with:

– system for barrier management

– risk analysis (QRA)

– escape tunnel and mustering station

– weather protection

– water mist installations

– safety-critical valves

– gas lift wells

– ignition source control and ATEX
