Report: DSME delivers Deepwater Conqueror drillship to Transocean

South Korea’s offshore rig builder Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine & Engineering has reportedly delivered a drillship to Transocean, one of the world’s largest offshore drilling contractors.

According to Pulse, a South Korean business news website, DSME on Wednesday said it delivered the DSME-12000 type drillship ordered back in 2013.

Transocean’s latest fleet status report from July shows the driller had five drillships under construction, with only one of those expected to start its contract in 2016.

Based on that information, it is safe to say that the drillship delivered is the Deepwater Conqueror, designed for operating depth of 12.000 feet, and maximum drilling depth of 40.000 feet.

The drillship’s AIS data shows the drillship located offshore South Korea and undergoing sea trials.

The Deepwater Conqueror is expected to start its contract with Chevron in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico in the fourth quarter of 2016. The contract is until the fourth quarter of 2021 on a dayrate of $589.000.

Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Transocean, seeking confirmation and more info. Transocean did not reply.
