Spectrum wraps up seismic survey off Brazil

Multi-client seismic data specialist Spectrum has completed the 17,700 km Santos Campos Phase Two 2D seismic survey offshore Brazil.

Spectrum said on Friday that the new acquisition program was an outboard extension of its 2012 Santos Campos Phase One survey, and tied other programs in the Santos, Campos, and Espirito Santo Basins.

According to the company, this survey produced a continuous dataset covering the prolific pre-salt oil fields in all three of these basins.

The survey was acquired with a 12,000 m cable to record data necessary to understand basin architecture as well as to image prospective zones in the section.

Newly acquired data extends coverage over an under-explored area of the pre-salt exploration province.

The data, already being processed in Spectrum’s Houston processing center with PSTM, PSDM (Kirchhoff and RTM), and broadband products, is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2017.

The completion of this new campaign offshore Brazil provides new long-offset data over prospective pre-salt basins in time for an anticipated licensing round in 2017.

The Brazilian government said that the round would include blocks outside the pre-salt area in the Santos and Campos Basins, with new opportunities for exploration in this play.
