A supply chain for offshore wind is needed urgently, according to engineering companies in the north-east of England, as business leaders in Scotland meet to discuss the potential benefits to investing in wind power.
Speaking to NewEnergyFocus, several bosses from the region expressed concerns that the UK would fall behind China in the delivery of products needed to achieve the UK targets on carbon dioxide emissions and renewable energy.
Ian Jackson, manager of projects at Heerema Hartlepool, told the news site that under current targets there needs to be an expansion in the capacity to build the sub-structures for the wind turbines.
Meanwhile, in Scotland a supply chain event is being held in Dunstaffnage to promote the supply chain opportunities presented by the industry from the point of view of developers and suppliers.
Councillor Robert MacIntyre, Argyll and Bute’s spokesperson for Economy, Environment and Rural Affairs said: “Argyll and Bute offers a huge renewable resource of wave, tidal, wind, hydro and biomass and the council is committed to supporting the diverse range of renewable technologies, both new and emerging.”
