The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted BG Norge a drilling permit for well 6604/2-1 cf. Section 8 of the Resource Management Regulations.

Well 6604/2-1 will be drilled from the Aker Barents drilling facility at position 66°47’1.791” north and 4°33’34.85”east after completing the drilling of wildcat well 6305/9-2 for Det Norske oljeselskap ASA in production licence 468.

The drilling programme for well 6604/2-1 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 522. BG Norge is the operator with an ownership interest of 40 per cent. The other licensees are Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS (20 per cent), Det Norske oljeselskap ASA (20 per cent) and Petoro AS (20 per cent).

The area in this licence consists of the blocks 6604/2, 6604/3, 6604/4, 6604/5 and 6604/6. The well will be drilled approximately 45 kilometres southeast of the Asterix gas discovery and 60 kilometres north of the Gro gas discovery.

Production licence 522 was awarded on 1 May 2009 in the 20th licensing round. This is the first well to be drilled in the licence.

The drilling permit is granted on the condition that all other permits and consents required by other authorities have been secured before the drilling activity commences.
