Reuters reports that BP has restarted oil production from Foinaven field, located west of the Shetland Islands, after it had been shut due to a small leak in January.
“Production re-started from the Foinaven field over the weekend, following a one-month shutdown for precautionary inspections and testing of the pipelines,” Reuters quoted BP’s spokesperson as saying.
The Foinaven field, discovered in 1992, is situated 190 kilometers west of Sheltands and covers UK blocks 204/19 and 204/24a. The field, which was the first UK deepwater oil field to be developed in the Atlantic margin, takes its name from the prominent mountain of North West Sutherland.
First oil from the field started flowing in 1997 via Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, Petrojarl Foinaven.
