Norway’s oil giant Statoil has completed drilling operations at Glitne oil field located in the Norwegian North Sea. The latest well at Glitne, drilled by the COSL Pioneer semi submersible rig, proved to be a dry-hole.

According to the owner of the rig, COSL Pioneer, on June 6, departed the Glitne location and underwent preparations in Åmøy for the upcoming operations at Statoil’s Brugdan II prospect, offshore Faroe Islands.

Yesterday, the rig COSLPioneer left for her voyage to the Faroese waters. The rig is expected to arrive at Brugdan II location on Saturday, June 16.

The Brugdan II prospect, located in Statoil operated license oo6, will be the first DP operation performed by COSLPioneer at a water depths of 459 meters. The duration of the project is estimated to approximately 130 days. Parts of the formation to be drilled (2500 meters) is a very hard lava called Basalt, and the drilling rates will be low in this formation.

Statoil operates the license with 50% interest. Other partners in the license are ExxonMobil (49 %) and Atlantic Petroleum (1%).

Norway’s exploration and production company Statoil participates in exploration on the Faroese Continental Shelf with six operatorships.
