Islamabad reiterated its determination to cooperate with Iran in energy sector and pursue Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Moazzam Ahmad Khan said.

Speaking at a weekly news briefing, he said ongoing talks between Islamabad and Washington for cooperation in the field of energy would not affect the country’s joint gas pipeline project with Iran, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

He went on to say that, the Pakistani government is determined to complete the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project before 2014.

Pakistan will construct a 700km-long pipeline from its border while Iran would build a 300km long stretch of the pipeline from Iranshahr to the Pakistani border.

Based on agreement between two countries, Iran agreed to export 21.5 million cubic meters of natural gas daily, 7.8 billion cubic meters annually.
