Enagas of Spain may become the main investor in the construction of the first LNG import terminal in Ukraine, Interfax reported, citing project curator Vitaliy Demyaniuk.

“ At the first phase Enagas could take part in the project as a major partner of the state ,” he said.

He also said that in the future other LNG players may join the project that include KOGAS of South Korea, U.S. Excelerate Energy and one of the Qatari companies.

According to the report he said that they are in negotiations with eight companies regarding potential gas supplies to the Odesa LNG terminal. Among them he mentioned Total, BP, BG, Kogas, Gas Natural and American companies.

“ On January 1, 2015, when the first phase of construction is completed, we should have signed contracts [for gas supplies] ,” he added.

The Ukrainian government approved in August the feasibility study for the construction of the LNG terminal.

The construction of the first line of the terminal will begin in 2013. By 2015 the terminal will be able to process 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The LNG terminal will be built at the shore of the Black Sea in the Odesa oblast, southern Ukraine. The final capacity of the terminal is projected to reach 10 billion cubic meters per year.
