Ocean Rig UDW Inc., an international offshore drilling contractor, announced today that it has signed definitive documentation, following the previously announced Letter of Intent, for one of its semi-submersible drilling rigs, the Eirik Raude, with an oil major.
The drilling contractor did not reveal the name of the client but it is believed that the company described as “an oil major” is ExxonMobil.
The drilling contract is for a one-well program for drilling offshore Ireland, with an estimated backlog of approximately $112 million, including mobilization and demobilization.
ExxonMobil will utilise the “Eirik Raude” to drill an exploration well at Dunquin prospect, located in Frontier Exploration Licence (FEL) 3/04, offshore Ireland with an estimated programme duration of up to 6 months.
The rig is scheduled to commence this contract in the second quarter of 2013, in direct continuation from its previous contract in West Africa.
ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Ireland (Offshore) Limited (27.5% interest) operates FEL 3/04 on behalf of its partners, Eni Ireland B.V. (27.5% interest), Repsol Exploracion Irlanda, S.A. (25% interest), Providence Resources Plc (16.0% interest) and Sosina Exploration Limited (4.0% interest).
