The wreck of a German WWII submarine “U-486” was found offshore Norway while conducting oil pipeline planning operations, thelocal.de reports.

Statoil confirmed, on their Facebook profile, that the company has found the submarine in a 250 meter depth.

The submarine left Bergen from the west coast of Norway 9 April 1945, and was torpedoed three days later.

The U-864 had a crew of 48 persons and the site is now treated as a war grave.

Politician and experts are discussing whether to lift the wreck which is broken in two parts or to cover it in a hard sarcophagus.
