Marine Cybernetics AS (MC) recently signed its first contract for delivery of HIL testing (Hardware in the Loop) to a total of 6 MODU (Mobile Drilling Units) new builds to be hired by Petrobras in Brazil.

Marine Cybernetics has for many years worked actively to get into this market, and this marks an important milestone in the company’s history. In addition, it is also interesting to note that one of the world’s largest oil companies, Petrobras, has introduced a requirement for independent testing of software and control systems on all newly-built drilling rigs to be in Brazil – So called HIL testing.

HIL testing is a proven methodology that is used in many other industries, eg aviation, but it was Marine Cybernetics who was the first to offer the use of HIL testing in the oil / offshore and maritime industry, established as a “spin-off” from NTNU in 2002.

As part of the Brazil Initiative, MC has taken steps to recruit Brazilians from universities in Brazil, whom are currently employed at the head office in Trondheim. The idea being the Brazilians will eventually move home to Brazil and help further the development of the business from there. Total Brazilians working today in Trondheim is 5, with a total representation of 12 different nationalities in the workforce.
