Norwegian-state run oil and gas company Statoil on Tuesday informed that the 1800-tonne subsea template for the Åsgard subsea gas compression pioneering project was en route from the shipyard in Egersund to the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea.

The installation, set to come on stream in 2015, will enable the recovery of an additional 280 million barrels of oil equivalents.

This subsea template is one of the largest in the world, equivalent to the size of a soccer field.
