Power from the last five turbines of the Teesside Offshore Wind Farm is scheduled to begin flowing this month.
The project’s 22 turbines are already producing power, while engineering work is underway to put the last 5 in operation so that the Teesside offshore wind farm would become fully operational by the end of the summer, the Northern Echo writes. Prior to feeding electricity to the National Grid, all of the 27 turbines will be connected to a substation in Warrenby.
During this phase, wind turbines may be tested individually until they are all working properly. Nevertheless, all of the remaining work is expected to be completed this month.
The offshore wind farm is placed between the mouth of the River Tees and Redcar, 1.5km from the shore at its closest point. It comprises 27 turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3MW, which will produce over 60MW of electricity – enough to provide renewable power to up to 40,000 households.
