Lithuania has invited Petronas of Malaysia to bid for a contract to supply liquefied natural gas for its terminal in Klaipeda Port.

“ We have invited Petronas to take part in this tender. We see Petronas as a very serious possible partner, ” Evalda Gustas, the country’s Minister of Economy told Bernama after he met with Petronas’ President Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas.

“ The tendering process has already started and will be finalised by year-end. Petronas has to decide this month or next month whether they want to participate ,” he added.

Höegh LNG of Norway has in March last year entered into a firm ten year time charter with Klaipedos Nafta to supply a floating LNG storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to be used as an LNG import terminal in Lithuania.

The FSRU is currently being built at HHI’s shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
