RWE hits another milestone in Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm installation.
The A2SEA’s vessel has erected the 80th wind turbine generator. Sea Jack and Sea Worker will continue with turbine installation, assisted by Sea Golf, Sea Bravo, Sea Echo & Bever.
The developers have already fitted 139 transition pieces and installed 27 array cables which will connect the wind turbines with two substations.
The export cables which will connect the offshore substation with the onshore substation at St Asaph have already been installed.
Gwynt y Môr, the €2billion (EURO) project, will consist of 160 turbines and is being built by RWE npower renewables in Liverpool Bay, off the North Wales coast. The project is being funded by RWE Innogy, in partnership with Stadtwerke München GmbH, and Siemens AG.
Once operational, Gwynt y Môr will have an installed capacity of 576MW, using Siemens 3.6MW turbines and generators. It will be capable of generating enough energy to meet the average annual energy needs of around 400,000 homes.
Construction is now well underway in north Wales and offshore in Liverpool Bay. The wind farm is due to be fully operational by the end of 2014.
