PETRONAS Real Time Visualisation Centre (PRTVC), a collaborative centre for knowledge-sharing in exploration and production (E&P) operations, was launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak on 25 March 2014.

The state-of-the-art centre was developed with the objective of promoting collaborative working environment among multidisciplinary technical teams of PETRONAS to address complex challenges and make real-time decisions for the company’s Exploration & Production (E&P) operations.

The PRTVC is a significant centre, as it is the first 3D visualisation and collaborative centre amongst national oil companies in Southeast Asia.

Present at the ceremony were Minister of International Trade and Industry YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed; Chairman of PETRONAS Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan and PETRONAS’ President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri’ Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas.

The centre, which is located at Tower 2 of the PETRONAS Twin Towers, houses real-time Drilling Operations and Monitoring Centre (DOMC); data review facility with secured geo-computing architecture and 3D visualisation with stereoscopic screens and visualiser.

PETRONAS’ Executive Vice-President of Exploration and Production Business, Dato’ Wee Yiaw Hin said the practical know-how imparted through the PRTVC will be able to address complex challenges within E&P operations.

“The virtual reality capabilities and other technical solutions available at the centre will also help to make real-time decisions and this would reduce high operating costs and time in our E&P operations.

“Collaboration is the key to the success of this centre. Over and above these technology-based facilities, integrated workflows have also been developed to bring together industry best practices to enhance collaboration among others,” he added.

As part of the industry’s efforts to preserve talents, this centre also offers a path for young engineers to gain technical capabilities through a collaborative working environment with hands-on exposure from technical professionals.
