Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (BSH) has issued a construction and operating license for the OWP WEST offshore wind farm.

The decision comes as a result of an eight-year approval process amid which extensive studies on marine safety, environmental protection, geology, as well as technological feasibility, were conducted.

The OWP WEST is located 58 km offshore Borkum, in the south-eastern North Sea, inside Germany’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), covering an area of 14.1 square kilometers.

The wind farm will comprise 41 wind turbines with a capacity varying from 5 to 8 MW.

The company responsible for the development of the project StrabagG OW EVS GmbH is in charge of the further technical planning and is working together with partner companies on the structuring of the project financing.
