The French government-owned nuclear group, Areva, said it could consider the possibility to acquire Alstom’s wind turbines business if an opportunity presented itself, according to Reuters.

At the parliament hearing on nuclear energy held yesterday, Areva CEO Luc Oursel said: “Concerning the wind activities, if any opportunities were to arise in the future, and given Areva’s ambitions in renewable energy, we would be ready to examine any possibilities.”

The company also denied being in direct negotiations over the mentioned business.

Earlier this month, Jeffrey R. Immelt, CEO of General Electric, the company that offered to buy Alstom’s energy division for EUR 12.4 billion, said he was willing to sell the wind energy business if GE won the bid.
