Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico and Director for Internal Energy Market of the European Commission Klaus-Dieter Borchardt opened the commercial Vojany-Uzhgorod pipeline in Veľké Kapušany in Slovakia.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk on behalf of the Government of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the Government of Slovakia at the opening ceremony of the pipeline for the assistance and real cooperation to ensure energy security. “We face huge challenges and the energy security is one of the key challenges,” said Yatsenyuk.

“We replaced 40% of gas, which we had previously bought in from Russian Gazprom, due to the opening of the reverse from Slovakia and opened opportunities for Ukraine to buy gas in Europe,” the Prime Minister stressed.

Yatsenyuk underlined that Ukraine has made a lot of crucial decisions on energy efficiency and energy security of the country.

“Our way is the diversification of energy supplies. We are demonstrating the reality of diversification today,” he said.
