Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line) said it will enhance its fleet with an additional five new generation eco-friendly Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs). The newbuilds will rejuvenate the existing fleet and replace older ships all with the aim of further strengthening both efficiency and cost competitiveness of “K” Line’s Containership Business, the company explained.

These 5 new vessels will join another 5 identical sister ships that will go into service during spring to summer 2015, bringing the total number of “K” Line’s ULCVs to ten vessels.

“As one of the world’s major ocean carriers, this substantial investment in an eventual total of 10 new ULCV sister ships is aimed at better serving the needs and requirements of “K” Line’s esteemed shippers worldwide,” the company said in a release.

The ordered 14000TEU containerships will be built by Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd and will have 13,870TEU of nominal container carrying capacity.

The delivery is scheduled for spring through summer of 2018.
