LNG imports for the month of October in Brazil rose 102% totaling 1,257,028 cbm compared to the 622,700 cbm during September.

Surge of LNG imports comes in the midst of severe drought conditions that have pushed the countries electric grid to its limits, according to Platts unit Bentek Energy.

The hydroelectric reservoirs in the Southeast Midwest region that normally supply up to %80 of the country’s power have seen water levels declined to 18.3%, Brazil’s national electric operator said..

During the past month more than 78% of the imported LNG was sent to the import terminals located in the Northeast, which was not the case previously when the state sent almost 65% of the imported LNG to Guanbara Bay import terminal in Rio de Janeiro.
