NLI Offshore & Marine Products said it will participate in the Approval in Principal process for large LNG fuelled container vessels with Hyundai Heavy Industries and Lloyds Register of Shipping.

Hyundai Heavy Industries has invited NLI to provide its LNG tank technology suitable for fuel tanks, bunkering and storage solutions.

Petter Mangelrød, the Managing Director of NLI Offshore & Marine Products , said, “We consider HHI’s LNG fuelled large container vessel concept to be a major step forward for LNG as a shipping fuel.”

There is currently a strong growth in the number of LNG fuelled vessels worldwide. Mangelrød added that, although most of the projects currently contracted are medium to small size vessels, there is a strong growing interest from shipowners and shipyards for large LNG fuelled container vessels and other types of mega ships. He believes that the company’s self-supporting atmospheric tank solution is a good match for these vessels.
