Damen Shipyards Group, an international shipyard group based in the Netherlands, has become a member of World Ocean Council (WOC).
The company stated that it works on optimizing the ship design and product innovations in order to reduce the environmental impacts of the shipping.
Damen’s designers and developers are investigating possibilities to contribute to a new generation of cleaner ships, and according to the company, it is identifying and developing new ways to address growing ocean challenges. Other examples of company’s initiative to reduce shipping environmental impacts include hybrid CNG and LNG tugs and inland shipping vessels, as well as the BlueTec tidal energy project .
Arnout Damen , Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Through the World Ocean Council, Damen can better work with the diverse ocean business community to identify and develop the innovative designs and products needed to tackle these issues – creating business opportunities and business solutions in support of cleaner seas.”
Damen Shipyards Group operates 32 shipbuilding and repair yards, employing 9.000 people, and offers a wide range of products, including tugs, workboats, naval and patrol vessels, high speed craft, cargo vessels, dredgers, vessels for the offshore industry, ferries, pontoons and superyachts.
WOC is the international, cross-sectoral alliance for private sector leadership and collaboration in ‘Corporate Ocean Responsibility’, and is comprised of over 70 organizations from a wide range of ocean industries including renewable energy, ocean technology, marine environmental services and other areas.
