40South Energy’s H24 machine can work both as wave and tidal unit.
H24 machine consists of a guiding part located on the sea floor, or on a support structure, and of a moving part above it, which moves according to waves or tides.
The machine uses WT25 power train. The mooring is provided by gravity and additional links to the sea by bolts or harpoons – depending on the sea floor.
H24 unit has a rated capacity of 50 kW, with the guiding part of 24 m in length.
The installation consists of fixing the guiding part to the sea floor, with or without the moving part already in place, depending on the environmental conditions and the size of the installation vessel.
The machines are designed for islands or isolated communities with an average electricity consumption of 50 kW or more.
40South Energy recently announced that the construction of the first H24 unit is underway, with the tests being performed on the new WT25v2 power train – an upgrade of WT25v1. The tests are performed in the sea water tank at 40South Energy’s facilities.
When the tank tests of the WT25 are completed, the device will be moved to a different facility where it will be integrated in the Transmission, Electronics and Power (TEP) module, prior to sea deployment of the device, according to the company.
40South Energy is working with Elements Works SRLS to secure the deployment of two H24 units at the Marina di Pisa, off Italy. The installed units will behave as wave energy units.
