QED Naval has completed its recruitment drive to enable the company to take on the challenges of the Subhub project and bring further capabilities to the business.
QED Naval expanded its team with three new recruits – Craig Salkeld, Alan McIntosh and Jonathan Nicol.
Craig Salkeld will join QED Naval’s Mechanical Engineering and Fluid Loading team which is working on the detailed design phase of the a 4 m diameter version of the community scale Subhub capable of generating up to 150 kW of power.
Alan McIntosh will be appointed Operations Manager, and his tasks include working on the procedures for installation/retrieval and operation/maintenance of the Subhub, as well as managing risk assessments and health and safety of all those involved in offshore operations.
Jonathan Nicol will be taking on the role of Procurement and Document Control Manager to develop the supply chain for the Subhub as well as drive the business management system towards ISO 9001 standard.
Jeremy Smith , QED Naval’s Managing Director, said: “This compact, highly qualified and specialist team gives us the capability to take the Subhub demonstration project through to a successful completion. We are confident of achieving our aims of this project where the key objective is to produce a step change in the cost of generating tidal energy.”
QED Naval is developing Subhub tidal foundations platform designed to commission, test, transport, install, and secure a mini array of wave and tidal turbines to the seabed.
QED Naval is an Edinburgh-based naval architecture consultancy that is focused on the development of the marine renewable energy industry and the vessel requirements for deployment of offshore wind, wave and tidal devices.
